Every year when the Sun starts waking up and chasing away the winter gloom, we start getting bombarded by warnings about Sun damage to our skin. “Use creams with UV protection, don’t expose your skin to direct sunlight, especially from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, wear a hat… “ But what about our eyes? The best way to protect your eyes while outdoors is to wear sunglasses. I remember, when I was little, we used to buy cheap sunglasses at the market. They didn’t protect our eyes much. •    Try to choose sunglasses with a tight fit, so you can minimalize the amount of sunlight that hits your eyes
•    Thick sides can also block the sunlight from reaching your eyes
•    If the sunglasses are darker, that doesn’t mean they will protect your eyes better. It’s the coating that counts, not the shading
•    Grey, green and brown colored lenses tend to provide better protection

Another is UVA, shorter waves and a bit less known than UVB, but just as dangerous.  UVA rays are known to cause damage to a person’s cornea and retina. Long term effects include cataracts and macular degeneration. A third kind of UV rays are UVC rays which have not been included in sunglasses protection as of now since these rays haven’t penetrated the ozone layer yet.

1. Warming the Eyes

Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times.

2. Pressing the Rim of the Valley

Use both thumbs and press slowly from the inside outward along the upper rim of the eye sockets. Then switch to both index fingers and press along the lower rim of the eye sockets from the inside outward. Repeat three times.

3. Rolling the Marble

Press the back of your thumbs gently against the eyeballs; slowly roll up and down 12 times. Then slowly roll from side to side 12 times.

4. Turning the Wheels of Fortune

Place the thumb knuckles at both temple areas and massage in circular motion three times. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose.
